Go... &... try... one... in... da... shop! Yes it will make a big difference... for a vague idea of the factors involved take a photo at 17 then zoom in to 26 (the same %age change).

Thanks Hedge... I would try one in a shop, but when I was looking online it said they were out of stock, so I presumed that meant there were none in the shop

Having seen what the difference is between the two lenses I decided to go with this lens I managed to get it at a good price, and now I'm just waiting for delivery of the lens If I win the lottery then I'll go for this lenses "big brother" but this one looks like it is capable of producing very good quality images... now I need to get the operator much more capable

Wow! The delivery of this bit of kit was quick! There it was, waiting patiently for me when I got home from work I can hardly wait for the weekend when I'll get chance to go out and play properly with it

... in the mean time you can experiment on the kids/cat/dog giving them distorted features, big heads, tiny bodies, etc... you could even take photo's while you're at it

PETS.... you think we have time for looking after pets! My daughter has already had a good giggle at how long her legs looks through the viewfinder I have a couple of places I want to go with it at the weekend.

I know I suddenly feel I "need" a new mid-range lens to take the place of my 17-45 kit lens, purely because the quality of the 9-18 one is so much better than the photos that come from my kit lens... then after that, well I know I'll be wanting a longer lens too... I'm tempted to search on eBay for the old Olympus lenses and buy a chipped mount for it... Then of course they are a improving the bodies all the time....

Well this lens got a really good work-out in New York Theres a huge difference between the photos hubby took with the point and shoot compact and my camera (Tho I admit we swapped cameras so I could use the one with no viewfinder when we went to the top of the Empire State Building... I dont like heights, so all I needed to do was hold the building and hold the camera over the edge and press the button ) Now I have a huge task of "developing" the hundreds of pics we took
