What is the purpose behind TravelThruTime.com?The aim of the site is to allow our users to share, search and add to an ever-growing database containing photographs of areas of interest and showing how they change over time.
What makes you so different from other photo sharing websites?In some ways, not an awful lot. As with other websites out there, we encourage users to upload and comment on photographs however, that's about where the similarities end.
Travel Thru Time is aimed at the dissemination of information on how areas change over time. By linking the images with a map and timeline, we make it possible for our users to help show others areas and times they otherwise could not see. Think of this as an ever-expanding series of photograph albums documenting people and places through time.
So, who is this website for?Ultimately - YOU!
We are for anyone interested in researching (or pictorially telling!) their local history, or of places on the other side of the world - comparing then and now, or comparing places from the same period of time. We are for anybody who wishes their treasured photographs and memories of "days gone by" (both the old and the new!) to not be forgotten but to be shared and embellished with context from other photographs of surrounding areas - on each photograph's page the map also shows photographs for ~30 mile radius meaning that no photograph is an island but is part of a greater story of the area.
So, what's next?As our user base and database continues to grow, the website will grow and adapt with it - this is the first step in a long journey
