I currently use the Olympus software (that came with the camera) to develop my RAW images... but to be honest I dont find it the easiest of softwares to use.

Any tips for making better images from this software, or does anyone have any recommendations for a good, and preferably simple program to develop photographs

After a couple more months of using the software, and trial/error... I think I'm finally getting somewhere with the RAW development.

I'd still be interested in taking a look at anything else that develops RAW format if anyone can recommend anything.

Sorry Tracey... I don't use RAW at all any more... the file sizes were way too big for the number of photo's I take & I found if you take a fairly good jpeg in the first place it's not really worth the extra flexibilty that RAW allows.

embarrassed2 So I'm not much help in this field... maybe someone else?  Roll Eyes

I seem to remember you saying you dont do RAW. How many photos do you take (roughly)

I do need the extra flexibility that RAW gives me, so I think I'll just keep trying different photography and pp methods until I hit the right method for me.

Erm...of one thing... a few Roll Eyes... but with the speed that my new cam can take shots I've recently got into bracketing (exposure) on subjects where I don't have total control as well (mostly for depth-of-field issues)... so for every shot I've now got 3 (tho' the extras will be deleted!).

I meant in a week/month/year (approximately) I gathered you would take more than one of each subject Smiley

eyepoppin 1000 in one night! holy moly, no wonder you dont "do" RAW.

OK, for curiosity sake, how many of those would you say were "keepers"

At a gig about 1/3 are keeper quality... confused but I'm not gonna process over 300 pics, so I choose about 50 from the quality shots to process up to present Wink

I suppose even 50 photos take plenty of time to process properly, or do you have that down to a fine art now?

Processing time is about 2mins per shot for a standard jpeg... that's about the time that my laptop actually takes to load up a RAW image!

Wow, you're quick!

Have you got some saved settings that you regularly use, or... how on earth do you get to be that quick!

What file size is your RAW, mine dont take that long to load

You can get a plugin for Raw images for Photoshop, I use that as well as the fits converter (for astronomical images from the Bradford robotic telescope) you can get a lot of these things if you hunt around.

I was lucky, my RAW files were recognised by the Elements software my course uses, no need to download the plugin Smiley  Tho for the course I have taken to saving files as RAW and JPG, just in case I run out of time to develop the raw images. Seems to be a good strategy so far

I have to admit, I'm starting to get used to RAW processing now. I'm doing it in Elements, and it seems so much easier. I like the extra flexiblity I can get with RAW... who knows if my photography improves, I might not need to use RAW for ever.
