Memory Cards
«
on:

I've been looking at buying an extra card (or 2) to supplement the one I currently use in my camera, and the other cameras in the household.
There seem to be many grades of card, and the price difference is remarkable! What should I look for in a memory card. Are there noticeable differences between the cheaper cards and the more expensive ones, and what differences are they?
Many thanks

There are different speeds of cards but all the modern ones are fast enough for cameras these days unless you're really into rapidly firing off loads of shots. Before going off on my travels I bought a load of own-brand 7dayshop.com* 1gig CF cards for my DSLR & they were so good I'm still using them 3 years later.
I would recommend having a few smaller cards to one huge one... I've never had a flash drive fail on me but it's an eggs/basket thing.
* 7dayshop sell memory cards very cheap... based in Jersey, they take advantage of the fact that there's no import tax on items under £18.

Thanks for that Hedge.
No point in looking at the expensive ones (phew!)

Finally took the plunge and ordered some memory cards today.
1 x 2Gb Xd with panoramic "feature" (for lazy lasses like me)
1 x 4Gb Compact Flash
£20 for both

yey they arrived today. I didnt realise that the compact flash card I had in my camera was only an 80x speed... so now I have a card that is twice the capacity and also faster

I still can't comprehend how you can package a "panoramic feature" on a memory card
... please explain when you've had a play.
